Why I don’t watermark
In reply to a comment on one of my photos by juliobaraccio.
“I’d watermark my stuff if I were you, it’s total pro quality.”
I’ve never believed in watermarking. I know it probably makes me a trusting idiot, but I like to share my photographs with fans. As a fan, watermarks always pissed me off, and I’m sure they piss other people off, too! Maybe if I ever get to that stage where I make my living from photography, I might be a bit more careful; after all, I was already burnt once when someone tried to sell my work on eBay (you can read a Guardian article about it here). Until then, I’m happy to share my happy snaps with other people without ruining them with a watermark.
(By the by, aside from a set of Gogol Bordello postcards created to make money for the fan forum, I never sell my photos on eBay. If you see anyone selling any of the photos of mine you like, please let me know!)
Thank you for the compliment - I’m not a pro by any means, just an occasionally lucky, enthusiastic amateur. The photos of Noel Fielding and Buzzcocks Live (and indeed, all the Latitude shots I have posted this week and a while back) were taken for The Word, a monthly music magazine in the UK which was kind enough to hire me as one of their official photogs for the festival, hence the pit access.
I hope one day I’ll get to say I’m a professional, not just producing pro-quality work! :)
